Software Engineer - Dashboard
Build Mosaico's dashboard and BI layer end to end, a FastAPI backend with a multi-page, htmx-driven frontend in modern web technologies, making high-frequency multimodal sensor data useful to non-technical teams.
Mosaico is an open-source data platform for robotics and physical AI. We’re solving a hard infrastructure problem: the tools that exist today for storing, indexing, and retrieving high-frequency sensor data are either too primitive or too painful to work with at scale.
We’re building the missing piece, and doing it in the open. Apache 2.0 licensed, public roadmap, real community. We care about the codebase being something people actually want to read and contribute to, not just use. In Italy, companies that operate this way are still a rarity, and we think that’s exactly what makes this interesting.
We’re based in Reggio Emilia, working with teams in defence, automotive, and agritech, and we’re building a commercial offering on top of the open-source core.
The role
Mosaico is building a dashboard that gives non-technical users access to the platform without requiring the SDK or the CLI. Data analysts, project leads, and operations staff need to browse sequences, monitor ingestion, track storage growth, and transfer data directly from a browser.
You’ll own this application end to end: a Python/FastAPI backend and a multi-page frontend built with modern web technologies, adding client-side reactivity directly where it’s actually needed rather than defaulting to a heavy SPA framework. We like htmx as a way to keep pages server-rendered and simple, so experience with it is a big plus.
The challenge is not just building a UI. The data that flows through Mosaico is high-frequency, multimodal, and contextually rich. You’ll be the engineer who figures out how to surface that data in ways that are immediately useful to people who don’t think in topics and sequences, who builds the software infrastructure that makes that possible, and who owns how the application gets deployed and run in production.
What you’ll work on
- Design and build the FastAPI backend powering the dashboard: endpoints, data models, and integration with mosaicod
- Build the multi-page frontend, using htmx for server-driven interactions and modern web technologies for the pieces that need real client-side reactivity
- Design and implement the core dashboard views: catalog explorer, ingestion monitor, storage analytics, data transfer
- Own containerization and deployment of the dashboard application, from Dockerfiles to the deployment pipeline
- Define the data model and query patterns that power the BI layer on top of Mosaico
- Contribute to the open-source codebase and engage with the community
What we’re looking for
- Strong backend experience in Python, comfortable designing and building APIs with FastAPI
- Solid web technologies skills, able to add targeted client-side reactivity without over-engineering the frontend
- Experience deploying and containerizing Python applications: Docker and the deployment tooling around it
- Comfort designing multi-page applications with server-rendered HTML and progressive enhancement
- Solid understanding of BI concepts and what makes a data interface actually useful for non-technical users
- Autonomous and able to drive technical decisions in a small team
- Fluent in English, written and spoken
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with htmx, or a strong interest in the server-rendered, progressive-enhancement approach it represents
- Familiarity with the robotics or sensor data domain
- Experience with data processing libraries (Pandas, Polars, or similar)
- Background in data engineering or data pipelines
- Open-source contributions

Salary range
