Software Engineer - SDK

Design and build the Mosaico C++ SDK from scratch, API design first, on top of Apache Arrow Flight and gRPC, shipped open source under Apache 2.0.

Mosaico is an open-source data platform for robotics and physical AI. We’re solving a hard infrastructure problem: the tools that exist today for storing, indexing, and retrieving high-frequency sensor data are either too primitive or too painful to work with at scale.

We’re building the missing piece, and doing it in the open. Apache 2.0 licensed, public roadmap, real community. We care about the codebase being something people actually want to read and contribute to, not just use. In Italy, companies that operate this way are still a rarity, and we think that’s exactly what makes this interesting.

We’re based in Reggio Emilia, working with teams in defence, automotive, and agritech, and we’re building a commercial offering on top of the open-source core.

The role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and build the Mosaico C++ SDK from scratch. This is primarily a design role before it’s an implementation role: you’ll be responsible for defining the API surface, the ergonomics, the abstractions, and the conventions that C++ developers will use to interact with the platform.

The team already has strong C++ expertise, so you’ll be joining people who can engage seriously on language-level decisions. You won’t be explaining why move semantics matter, you’ll be debating whether they belong in a particular API boundary.

As the SDK matures, you’ll also contribute to the Rust core, so comfort reading and reasoning about Rust code is expected to grow as part of this role.

What you’ll work on

  • Design the API surface of the Mosaico C++ SDK: abstractions, conventions, error handling, and ergonomics
  • Implement the SDK on top of Apache Arrow Flight and gRPC, matching the capabilities of the existing Python SDK
  • Define how C++ clients connect, authenticate, ingest data, and query the platform
  • Work closely with the Rust core team to ensure tight integration and consistent behaviour across SDKs
  • Contribute to documentation, examples, and the open-source community around the SDK
  • Over time, contribute to the Rust codebase as your familiarity with the core grows

What we’re looking for

  • Deep, production-grade C++ experience: you have strong opinions about API design, memory management, and what good C++ looks like today
  • Experience designing libraries or SDKs intended for external developers, not just internal tooling
  • Solid understanding of gRPC and Protocol Buffers in a C++ context
  • Familiarity with Apache Arrow or columnar data formats is a strong plus
  • Comfortable working in a polyglot environment: the platform spans C++, Rust, and Python
  • Basic working knowledge of Rust, or genuine willingness to develop it on the job
  • Autonomous and opinionated: this role requires making hard design calls with limited hand-holding
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken

Nice to have

  • Experience with data infrastructure, robotics, or sensor-based systems
  • Open-source library authorship or significant open-source contributions
  • Familiarity with cross-platform build systems (CMake, Bazel)

What we offer

  • Full design ownership of a greenfield SDK used by robotics and physical AI teams
  • A team with serious C++ experience that can engage at your level
  • Work that ships as open source and powers a commercial product
  • Flexible hours, full remote with optional office access in Reggio Emilia
  • Competitive salary, discussed openly based on your level and experience
  • Welfare package
  • Stock options

Salary range

€70K – 100K, adjusted based on location, experience, and level.
